Deceiving your spouse about money
Comment
Despite a pledge to stick together for better or worse, many couples have a hard time recalling their vows when it comes to the slippery slope of financial matters.
That according to a recent MSN Money report on marriage and finances that looks at some of the most common areas of deceitful behaviours.
According to the NEFE study:
- 58% admit to hiding money from their spouse;
- 30% hide bills or other statements from their partner;
- 16% lie about major purchases;
- 15% keep a hidden bank account;
- 11% lie about how much they earn or owe.
For those worried about the possibility of spousal deceit when it comes to their finances, here are some telling signs that trouble may be on the horizon:
- Many spouses with spending problems insist on retrieving the mail in order to hide the bills;
- Impulse buying can generally be detected when new items appear in your home that have not been jointly approved;
- Some spouse will insist on paying the bills month after month, without divulging anything in terms of what they are paying.
